Curated by former BAX Artists In Residence Jillian Peña and Fernando Maneca, the Upstart Program is designed to give creators of dance, theater and performance works, who have no more than three years of experience showing their work in New York City, an opportunity to show work and to facilitate networking opportunities that pave the way for fruitful artistic careers.

Halloween Playspace

Calling all monsters, ghosts, and goblins! Join us as we celebrate a spooky start to the Playspace season! We’re kicking off the 2018-2019 Playspace season with all of the usual Playspace fun – from wiggly tunnels to colorful blocks – plus singing, dancing, and a special treat (but no tricks – we promise). All with a little Halloween twist! Kids (and adults!) are encouraged to come in costume.

BNS Art Share/Interrupting Bigotry program

Thursday, November 15, 2018 @ 5-10:30pm
Open to the public | $5 suggested donation

This performance will feature 5th-grade students performing real-life inspired scenarios using the Theater of the Oppressed framework. The share will culminate with audience interaction and discussion. This is the second year we’ve offered this particular program and it is facilitated by longtime BAX teaching artist-in-residence at BNS, José Joaquín Garcia.

The BNS and BAX community are welcome and encouraged to join!

2018 Fall Space Grant Showcase

This showcase presents works by Fall Space Grant recipients J. Bouey, Bex Kwan and Sophia Mak, and lily bo shapiro. The Fall Space Grant program gives NYC-based dance, theater and performance artists the opportunity to create new work or build upon existing work in a setting that is conducive to working deeply and exploring new territory.

Teen Arts Conference

For over 15 years, Brooklyn Arts Exchange’s Teen Arts Conference (TAC) has provided teen performing artists (ages 13-18) across New York City and beyond an opportunity to come together as part of a wider cultural community of learners and practitioners. The free, day-long conference, for invited participants, offers a range of theater, dance, and movement workshops; panel discussions with professional artists, companies, and leaders in the field; and culminates with a Performance Gala in the BAX Theater.
